One of the great things about being independent is being able to partner with incredibly creative people across the industry. Starting at the tail end of 2014, Chris Sloan—the driving force behind 2C Creative + Content in Miami—brought in Würdsmith Creative’s Jim McNulty as a regular contributor. As if spending five weeks in Miami during the winter wasn’t enough of a benefit to the partnership, Jim also got the opportunity to develop the concept and write the script for this BLAST of a campaign for Matt Laster at Science.
Since Science Channel was already a network client of Würdsmith Creative, Jim had a good handle on the network’s brand voice and was able to develop five different options for the spot, before Laster and Science’s SVP of Creative Dan Bragg selected Jim’s most “out-there” concept.
The idea to was to creative a bit of a non-sequitur, Denis Leary-esque rant as an homage to the Ford Truck spots that Leary voices. We took viewers through a crash course in how humanity’s development of tools has led us to the brink of discovering alien life out there in the universe.
Once Science selected the concept, 2C’s amazing design team, led by Design Director Luis Martinez, developed the spot’s signature look and brought the story to life through their incredible animation.
The result was a break-through piece of creative that secured two 2016 PromaxBDA Awards, including a SILVER for art direction, and a BRONZE in the copywriting category for Jim’s script.
